Event name: Camp Strava

Event Dates: May 16-17, 2023

Part tech giant conference, part hip Hollywood party, Camp Strava 2023 is an annual event that gathers the global Strava community in one place for a chance to connect, learn from each other, and move together. Bringing 300 of the world’s most inspiring athletes, explorers, community builders, event organizers, and brands to the iconic Garland Hotel to tackle the question of what the active community of tomorrow could—and should—look like was, in a word, stellar. The day was packed with camaraderie, conversation, and plenty of time for activity.

The Five Key Takeaways from Camp Strava:

  • Strava is partnering with Nike
  • You can now play Spotify through Strava
  • FATMAP (3D route creation) is coming in hot
  • Clubs and groups are a top priority
  • Metro is an excellent way Strava works with Local City Planners

While Strava is undoubtedly the GOAT of all movement apps, FNTECH showcased what we’re known for best—using tech and creativity to share Strava’s brand and messaging.

From the custom Strava logo swing photo op to the three-court custom pickleball arena to the interactive “What’s Your Strava” string art, we helped Strava engage their attendees and create a buzz Stava peeps will be talking about until the next exciting event.

We started with a well-attended canyon trail run at dawn to kick off the morning. Upon their return, the group was greeted with healthy breakfast treats, barista coffee from a local espresso truck, and mini-boosted smoothies to energize their day.

Next, the keynote session featured several key members of the Strava leadership team, including Strava’s outgoing CEO Michael Horvath, and the technical bit from Misha Gopaul, the founder of digital mapping service FATMAP, which Strava has recently acquired. We heard inspirational stories, announcements of a slew of new features, and all about the overhaul of several key existing ones. Whether you’re a city cyclist, a backwoods skier, or you just like uploading your best running times to the platform, the Strava community was there for it 100%.

To up wrap the day, Strava invited everyone to a special mixer in the hidden park (a wonderous thing in downtown LA), complete with a special guest DJ, carefully curated delicacies, a fun pickleball tourney, and more.
